About Brunel Uni

Brunel University is one of a number of British universities created in the 1960s following the Robbins Report on higher education. With its roots in Acton Technical College, Brunel broke away to specialise in Engineering, and was given University status in 1966.

In 1980 and 1995 the University merged with Shoreditch College of Education and the West London Institute of Higher Education, respectively. As part of these mergers, Brunel gained three further campuses. The number of students rose to 12,000 and the breadth of courses also increased greatly.

In the late 1990s Brunel sold off its addional campuses at Runnymede, Osterley and Twickenham, and used the revenue to renovate and update the buildings and facilities on the Uxbridge campus. Works carried out included a library extension, a state-of-the-art sports complex, renovated students' union facilities, a new Health Sciences teaching centre, and the building of more halls of residence.

Today, Brunel has over 14,000 students and is globally renowned. It has 1,600 international students, drawn from 114 different countries.
